The first thing I ask myself whenever I make a decision is—“Is this the best thing for the kids?” I am a children’s pastor and I’m constantly reminding my staff and ministry partners (aka: volunteers) that children are the reason why we’re here. I love our ministry partners. They are an integral part of what we do and how we do it. Without them ministry wouldn’t be possible. As true as this is they are not the first people I think about when making decisions.
I always think about our kids. I am willing to make things a little more difficult for me and our ministry partners if it’s best for the kids. This means I have to make tough decisions that make me “Mr. Unpopular”, but I’m willing to weather those short storms as long as I know it’s best for the kids. There was a time where I was so concerned and focused on ministry partners and their every need and want that actually ministering to children and their needs was not my number one priority. It’s important that we don’t get caught up in the busyness of ministry that we forget why we’re here in the first place—kids. I’m a children’s pastor.
