I was given a complimentary copy of the book Our Home is like a Little Church from Sojourn Community Church as a part of the book blog tour.
Admittedly, I was a little skeptical of the book. How can a small book creatively reinforce the God-given responsibility of the home being the primary place of spiritual development? Furthermore, would kids understand the content? All my questions were answered once I brought it home and read it to my four kids. They loved the simplicity of the book and the illustrations. What I didn’t expect was the power of the book for me as a father. I think the book ministered to me the most.
In fact, I’m not so sure the book isn’t for parents rather than children. It reinforced to me my role as a father and allowed a great conversation starter concerning the responsibility of the church and that of the home. I do admit that for single moms it may seem a little uncomfortable because of the prominent father figure role throughout the book. I’m confident, though, it is still a valuable tool for every household.
I love the book and would recommend it to all families. In fact, if you’re a children’s pastor you may want to purchase a bunch and give them away (i.e. first time guests, special events, etc.).
