“You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality.” – Walt Disney
No matter what your opinion of Walt Disney is there is no doubt he has literally changed culture through entertainment. This is one of my favorite quotes from Disney. Even he understood that no matter how cool an atmosphere you create to attract families, it doesn’t matter unless you have people on your team who believe in your vision who can make it happen.
I remember when I used to put so much weight behind a room’s look and design. And, though I still believe it’s important, it’s not nearly as important as having quality people who love children and the vision that your church has, which is more than likely to expand the kingdom of God however that’s worded.
I’m preaching to myself when I say, build up your volunteers, staff, partners, cast, whatever you call them first. Invest time, money and resources into them and then worry about the atmosphere. I’m convinced that once we put our time and energy into people that creativity flows, atmospheres happen, details aren’t overlooked as much and lives are changed.
